Message from the President
BSHRM Rocks – and we’re Rolling!!!!!
Since January, we’ve had over 30 engaged meetings including, monthly chapter meetings, board meetings, advisory council meetings, committee meetings, sub-committee meetings, planning meetings, networking events and more. To say that we’ve been extremely busy is an understatement.
The leadership of this chapter is Phenomenal. Totally committed to our mission: Leading People – Leading Organizations.
Our Leadership Academy under the direction of our Past President, Gini Bell, is a true success. The Academy, focusing on core HR Competencies, is developing the best and brightest “HR Rock Stars” in Alabama. If you want to be the next “Rock Star” in our chapter and your organization, then get your application in early for next year’s academy.
Our Legal & Legislative Team is the Bomb!! This eager and educated entourage made a huge impression during their Spring Hill Visit to Washington, D.C. Look out for information on the recent Healthcare Reform Bill and more!!
I could go on and on about the great works of our Workforce Development Committee, Community Relations Committee, Diversity Committee, and Certification/ Mentoring Committee. Each area offers a variety of fantastic volunteer opportunities structured to allow you to share a portion of your time, talents and treasures. Pay it Forward- to our profession and our community!!!!
Our Finance & Operations Committees are continuing to retool and establish the administrative foundation for BSHRM’s continued success. We don’t hesitate to share our best practices, benchmark with other successful chapters and take the necessary steps to ensure BSHRM’s mission and activities are aligned with SHRM’s overall objectives.
Our Programs Committee is working hard to bring the most relevant and impactful topics and workshops to our members laced with recertification credits and networking opportunities. We’re also excited about our partnership with ASTD Birmingham and our joint efforts in planning a one-day workshop featuring international speaker and hometown hero, Jack Phillips. We hope you will join us on June 25th for this exciting event.
Our VP of Vendor Relations & Sponsorship has to be the hardest working one person team within our chapter. Auntie Stephanie (in her best Uncle Sam voice) – Wants You!!!! If you’re looking for an area to serve, with high visibility, this is the area for you. We’ve welcomed new sponsors into the BSHRM family while continuing to cultivate relationships with those partners who have supported us over the years. Our vendor relationships are vital to the Chapter (and we have room for more).
If you have not connected with the Chapter via social media, you’re missing out on great discussions through the SHRMingham Blog, Facebook, Twitter and Linked In platforms. Our Communications Team is still in search of contributors / writers -2 paragraphs or 2 pages – you make the call). Join us and start sharing your knowledge, experiences, open positions, community events and more.
Finally, I can’t say enough how humble and grateful I am to serve as your leader. Thank you for your confidence and support.
You must give some time to your fellow men. Even if it's a little thing, do something for others - something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it. (Albert Schweitzer)
