If you have been planning to earn the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designation, now is the time to enroll in our recently updated and expanded Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) exam preparation course based on the SHRM Learning System.
The deadline to sign up for the BSHRM PHR/SPHR Fall 2010 Certification Classes is Wednesday, August 25th .
By attending the course, you will develop new knowledge and skills that will improve your workplace effectiveness immediately. The classroom instruction based format provides the following benefits:

For more information, or to receive details on registering for the test, go to www.hrci.org. The winter testing window is December 1, 2010-January 31, 2011. Individuals are responsible for signing up for the exam through HRCI.
The course will have ten class sessions covering the six modules of the SHRM Learning System and a Test Taking Tips Session. The classes are mainly on Saturday mornings from 8:30am-12:30pm with a couple of Thursday night classes from 5:30pm-7:30pm. No meals or drinks are provided, but vending machines are available.

The cost of the classes is $850 for BSHRM members and $950 for non-BSHRM members. The cost includes classes led by subject matter experts for each of the modules, books for each of the modules and a CD-ROM Study Kit. The class fee does not include the exam fee charged by HRCI.

What is Certification?
The PHR and SPHR certifications are awarded by SHRM's Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). Certification demonstrates the holder has mastered the increasingly complex human resource body of knowledge and accepted the professional challenge to stay abreast of new development in the HR field.
Who is Certified?
Since SHRM began credentialing HR professional in 1976, the number of certified HR practitioners in the United States has risen each year and now numbers over 36,000. Here in Alabama, over 390 HR professionals hold either the PHR or SPHR designations. In Birmingham, over 130 BSHRM chapter members, representing ove 22% of our membership, are certified. HR professionals in all inudustries and at all levels of experience are becoming credentialed at an increasing rate.

What are the requirements for certification?
HRCI strongly recommends that PHR candidates have two to four years of exempt-level HR work experience and SPHR candidates have six to eight years of exempt-level HR work experience.

How can I prepare for the exam?
The BSHRM Certification Review Course is offered each spring and fall prior to the HRCI exams. This course consists of six modules covering the primary areas of field of Human Resource Management. With a local HR professional serving as facilitator, this course presents a broad review of human resource management functions and serves as preparation for the national stnadardized certification examination.
