InformationMembership Qualifications BSHRM membership is available only to individuals with a bona fide interest in the human resource management field. In general, this group includes corporate human resource practitioners, faculty members of colleges and universities and consultants providing HR expertise to multiple clients. Associate membership is available to those individuals desiring to enter the profession or who have in the past been employed in an HR capacity.
Regular membership in the Chapter may be granted to:
Regular members enjoy all benefits, rights and privileges of Chapter membership including the right to vote in matters of Chapter business or Bylaw changes and hold elective office in the Chapter. BSHRM's annual membership dues are currently $75.00 for individuals that are also members of SHRM. Without membership in SHRM, dues will be $90.00. Members who attend the monthly programs currently pay $25.00 to cover the cost of their meal and attendees at chapter workshops and seminars pay a small user fee. Re-join Now! Associate membership in the Chapter may be granted to those individuals engaged primarily in sales or other non-human resource activities provided such individuals provide proof of and maintain current membership in the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Those Associate members who achieve and maintain active professional certification(s) related to the field of human resources management (i.e. PHR, SPHR, CCP, CEBS, etc.) shall qualify for conversion to Regular membership status. Associate membership in the Chapter may not exceed fifteen percent of the total membership. Associate members shall not be entitled to vote in matters of Chapter business or Bylaw changes and shall not hold elective office in the Chapter.

Student membership may be granted to those individuals not actively employed in a human resource capacity and who are pursuing a course of secondary learning leading to employment in the HR field or a related profession. Student Members shall not be entitled to vote in matters of Chapter business or Bylaw changes and shall not be entitled to hold elective office in the Chapter. Undergraduate university students with a career interest in the HR profession are encouraged to join both BSHRM and SHRM. The chapter supports student SHRM chapters at The University of Alabama at Birmingham and Strayer University. To apply for student membership, print and complete the application and include payment of $25.00 for an annual student membership. Retiree Member Retired HR Professionals receive a discounted membership while they are retired. If a Retiree Member returns to work full-time, the full membership fees (Regular or Associate) will apply. The discounted rate offered will be the same as the Student Member rate ($25 per year). Retiree members enjoy all benefits, rights and privileges of Chapter membership including the right to vote in matters of Chapter business or Bylaw changes and hold elective office in the Chapter.
